Type: White Wine
Region & Country: Valdeorras, Spain
Description: Rafael Palacios hails from the lesser known and most easterly Galician appellation, the Valdeorras. The name literally translates to 'valley of gold', named after the important mineral resource here: slate. About 90% of Europe's slate is mined here, in Valdeorras. The main grape variety here is Godello - an autochthonous white grape variety producing fuller bodied wines with incredible texture, round acidity and when planted to these slate soils, produces wines with an astonishing minerality.
Rafael has focused his attention to making wines with only the Godello variety and is responsible for producing some of Spain's greatest white wines. Rafael's expertise can also be attributed to his family's influence in the wine business in the country: the family is responsible for iconic estates in Rioja, Priorat and also in neighbouring Bierzo.
