Type: Red Wine
Region & Country: Maule Valley, Chile
Description: Considered to be one of Chile's most exciting wineries, the De Martino Winery was founded in 1934 and is now headed by the current generation, Marco Antonio and Sebastián De Martino, the wines made by Marcelo Retamal. The wines are pure and balanced, with sustainable agriculture at the core of their farming philosophies. Vigno is short for Vignadores de Carignan and is an association of producers whose goal is to create an appellation of origin for wines made from old Carignan vines that have been dry-farmed and bush-trained in the Maule Secano area. There have been many winemakers from around the world that have taken part in this project and this is De Martino's expression! The La Aguada vineyard is about 70 years old and is planted to un-grafted vines of Carignan. Its proximity to the Pacific Ocean moderates the climate, giving the wines a greater freshness. Savoury, meaty and peppery, these wines are really complex with a pleasant concentration of flavour.
