Description: The Katogi winery was founded in 1959 by Evangelos Averoff, a prominent politician in his time. He became the first to plant Cabernet Sauvignon in Greece, a country that had up until then had only made wines with their many local grape varieties. The wines were made in his katogi (basement) until 1973, when a winery was finally built. He had gained a cult following and had to limit the number of bottles each person could by. Now however, the wines are made in ample amounts, and we can all grab as many bottles as we like. The vineyards are on the Pindus mountain range with altitudes reaching about 1000 metres above sea level, producing wines with incredible finesse and precision. A really meaty wine, we'd recommend this with your lamb or steak dinner.
